Position Title Admission Counselor

Job Description Summary

The Admissions Counselor responds to public inquires of pet owners who wish to surrender their pet. Completes intake procedures for all animals being admitted to MSRPAC. Provides daily enrichment for center animals.

Main Responsibilities/Functions

Operations:

• Assist members of the public in the admittance of their pet through proper interviewing techniques and complete all necessary data entry into animal database.
• Evaluate and assist in behavior and medical assessment of new animals arriving at the center.
• Take and upload photos of animals at time of admission.
• Perform minor medical tasks such as vaccinations, microchipping and deworming.
• In conjunction with the Admissions Coordinator, assists in animal transports from municipal animal control agencies.
• Work positively with other members of the management team to accomplish department goals.
• Assists in facilitating behavior programs for center dogs including documentation.
• Assists in monitoring play groups in age and temperament appropriate groups.
• Assists in enrichment program for center dogs and cats.
• Assists in updating all socialization boards
• Works with advanced volunteer animal handlers and other volunteers as assigned.
• Assists with promotion of long term residents, writes animal bios that are positive and creative.
• Assists Foster Care Coordinator when needed.
• Adheres to MSRPAC’s disease management and safety precautions.

Customer Service:

• Follows proper procedures and guidelines for handling and managing all animal intake operations for surrendered and transferred animals.
• Maintain a customer friendly atmosphere at all times.
• Monitor and maintain all public communications to ensure accuracy and professionalism.

Administrative:

• Ensure thorough and accurate animal records.
• Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the Admissions Coordinator and Director of Operations
• Exhibit the values and philosophy of the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None

Qualifications

• Able to rationalize when faced with emotional decisions.
• Proven animal behavior, animal handling experience and breed knowledge.
• Ability to properly handle large and/or difficult dogs and cats.
• Ability to safely lift 50lbs. unassisted.
• Exceptional organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills required.
• Proficiency in computer applications (MS Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint and databases)
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with many different personalities.
• Able to be tactful and handle delicate issues.
• Valid CA driver’s license
• Evening and weekend availability
