Position Title Community Education Coordinator

Job Description

Working in collaboration with the Community Relations Manager and Director of Development, the Community Education Coordinator will engage in the research, planning, implementation and evaluation of all community outreach activities necessary to awareness of the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center’s mission and vision. The Community Education Coordinator is responsible for overseeing humane education, community outreach programs and offsite events.

Main Responsibilities/Functions

Community Outreach:

• Represents organization at community events, seeking advantageous partnerships with community businesses, vendors and individuals.
• Researches, develops and updates programs to educate the community about humane animal care, animal welfare issues, and activities at the center assuring that presentations are in accordance with the organizations missions and philosophies
• Seeks opportunities to promote the organization and humane education concepts at community events and in the news media.

Humane Education:

• Oversee and develop presentations/events for schools, youth groups, community organizations and tours.
• In collaboration with the Community Relations Manager, ensure that programs meet the standards of California’s state standards for education, are culturally sensitive and incorporate a variety of learning styles and methodologies that ensure a holistic approach.
• Ensure that all humane education programs are adequately scheduled and presented in a timely manner.

Fundraising:

• Works with Director of Development and Fund Development Coordinator on fundraising and event activities. Volunteer Coordination:
• Provides direction to volunteers for humane education activities and events including birthday parties, tours, scout courses, etc.
• Co-facilitates volunteers as required.

Administrative:

• Creates, prepares, and distributes meeting agendas and supporting documents.
• Creates presentations and supporting documents.
• Enters donor information, event invitation and participant lists on appropriate technology database.
• Assists with communications and marketing in support of community outreach and humane education.
• Coordinates distribution of print materials for donor/sponsor/and participant’s solicitations.

Qualifications

Other related duties as required.

• Bachelor’s degree highly preferable or 2-3 years equivalent experience.
• Experience in community outreach and humane education, preferably in the not-for-profit sector.
• The ability to work well independently on several projects concurrently, and possess excellent communication, organizational and creative thinking skills.
• Ability to develop and deliver presentations aimed at various age groups.
• Software proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, is required;
• Experience working with executive, donors and volunteers and managing, supervising and orientating people for events.
• Excellent written and oral interpersonal communication with educator and communications skills.
• Strong initiative and customer service orientation
• Volunteer management skills an asset
• Project Management, organizational and prioritizing skills; problem solving and organizational skills; attention to detail is imperative
• Demonstrated high energy level and flexibility, pleasant persona coupled with sound judgment; flexible, discreet and able to maintain confidential information, knowledge of correct protocol for specific situations.
• Experience and comfort in working with children.
• Able to lift 25 lbs.
• Must have a valid California DL
